Going To The NCAA Tournament!

Congratulations to the Seawolves softball team, America East conference champions, who will be headed out to Tempe, AZ to play Arizona State in the first round of the NCAA Division I Softball tournament!

We've had a good amount of athletic success this season:
  • Our women's soccer team finished fourth in the America East. Goalkeeper Marisa Viola '10 (Cutchogue, N.Y.) set a school record with 10 shutouts, including a scoreless streak of 863:33 that spanned 10 games. During that stretch, she recorded eight straight shutouts which ranks as the seventh longest streak in NCAA women's Division I history and she ended the season with a save percentage of .878, ninth best in the nation. Most recently, Barbuto (first-team) and Viola (second-team) earned recognition on the NSCAA All-Northeast Region team.
  • Our women's cross country team won their conference as well, and finished 31st at the nationals.
  • Track and field had eight players named to the all-conference team.
  • Volleyball finished second in their conference, losing a very tight championship game 3-1.
  • Our football team finished 6-5, and is excited about the jump to the Big South Conference in the fall.
  • Our men's lacrosse team, the highest-scoring team in the conference, finished third and took a tough 12-9 loss in the conference tournament.
  • Our women's lacrosse team finished 9-6, including a huge four-game winning streak to end the season, including wins over rivals Binghamton, Albany, and Hofstra.
  • Men's soccer finished 9-7-3 in the regular season, and had three alumni sign professional contracts, including two with the Red Bulls here in New York.
  • Men's tennis finished third in the conference, and freshman Artem Baradach was named America East Rookie of the Year.
  • Jessica Smith '07 is on the brink of leading her professional basketball team to a championship in Switzerland! (Quite frankly, if you're going to play professional basketball, wouldn't it be cooler to play on the Swiss/Italian border than in some crazy place like Oklahoma City?)
Not bad at all, methinks. I wonder if I can contact Jessica to ask her some questions too! Hmmm...
